Rep. Yoder displays 2014 Congressional Art Competition

Overland Park – Rep. Kevin Yoder announced today that the high school student art entered in the 2014 Congressional Art Contest from the 3rd Congressional District is now on display in the Roeland Park Gallery, located in Roeland Park City Hall, located at 4600 West 51st Street. Artwork can be viewed by the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. from now until April 24.

“This year, high school students from across the 3rd District submitted fantastic artwork for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition. I enjoy seeing the different entries each year, and I’m so impressed by the talent of our local young artists – this year’s competition will be hard to judge based on the high quality of art,” Congressman Yoder said.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the nation from each Congressional district. The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for Members of Congress to recognize the artistic talents of high school students in their districts. Since then, more than 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition.

An Arts Advisory Committee comprised of 3rd District artists will help to select a winning entry, which will then be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol in Washington, DC. 3rd District residents are also encouraged to visit Congressman Yoder’s Facebook page and vote on their favorite art entry as the “People’s Choice Award Winner.”
