Head Start Recognizes Congressman Kevin Yoder
Rep. Yoder receives 2012 Kansas State Children’s Champion Award
Overland Park, KS – Representative Kevin Yoder today received the 2012 Head Start Kansas State Children’s Champion Award from the Region VII Head Start Association in Kansas City. This distinguished recognition is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and a strong commitment to the improvement of the lives of many of the nation’s most vulnerable children, youth and families. The Region VII Head Start Association annually recognizes one state children’s champion from each of the region’s four states; Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas.
“Receiving this award is such a tremendous honor. At the end of the day, we all realize our most important task is making sure all children have the opportunity to realize their dreams. Head Start provides a great avenue for kids to get a jump on education and see that their dreams become reality. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I understand the value of investing in the future or our children,” stated Congressman Yoder. “I will continue to do all I can to ensure these opportunities remain available and accessible and I’m proud to work closely with Head Start in Kansas.”
Congressman Yoder has had the opportunity to meet with parents and educators at Kansas Head Start at their annual conference in Washington, D.C. and in the 3rd Congressional District. In March, Congressman Yoder read to a classroom of children for “Read Across America Day” at the Shawnee Mission Head Start. Additionally, he has had the opportunity to visit both the Children’s Campus in Kansas City, Kansas and Olathe Head Start.
