Yoder reduces office budget, returns 9% to pay down debt

Feb 1, 2012
Press Release

Washington, DC – Congressman Kevin Yoder today presented a check in the amount of $120,000 to Speaker of the House John Boehner and requested the money be used to pay down the national debt. Congressman Yoder was joined by several Republican House freshmen at a press conference this morning where they turned in unused Member Representational Allowance (MRA) funds.

Congressman Yoder and his House colleagues had already passed a budget that included a 5 percent cut to office funds for both 2011 and 2012. The returned funds of $120,000 are in addition to these existing budget cuts.

“Our country has a crippling national debt of over fifteen trillion dollars. We must make tough decisions to change the way taxpayer money is spent in Washington. I’m happy to return these unused office funds to the Speaker in order to help pay down our nation’s debt. I will continued to work hard to find ways to cut costs in my office, while ensuring that quality constituent services remain our top priority. I recognize we have a lot of work to do to improve America’s financial health.”

Congressman Yoder was joined by several colleagues; including Rep. Jeff Landry (LA-03), Rep. Jeff Duncan (SC-03), Rep. Tim Huelskamp (KS-01), Rep. Raul Labrador (ID-01), Rep. Mick Mulvaney (SC-05), Rep. Steve Southerland (FL-02) and Rep. Joe Walsh (IL-08).
