Yoder Statement on EPA Clean Power Plan Announcement
Washington, DC – This afternoon, Representative Kevin Yoder (R-KS) issued the following statement in response to the Environmental Protection Agency’s announcement of a new rule overriding the Obama Administration’s so-called Clean Power Plan, the most expensive federal regulation in American history:
“The Obama Administration’s so-called Clean Power Plan was the single most expensive regulation in history, set to cost our economy $480 billion and increase Kansans’ electric bills by 20 percent. Worst of all, the spike in the cost of electricity would have hit low-income Americans struggling to get ahead the most. All the while, the Obama EPA admitted it would only affect global temperatures by a negligible one one-hundredth of a degree over the next century. Today's decision to repeal it is a victory for ratepayers, small businesses, and working families alike.
“The best approach is one that promotes innovation and competition in renewable energy to keep electricity rates down for Americans while developing clean power sources. President Obama's approach was the opposite – more regulations, higher electric bills for all, and virtually no impact on global temperatures. It was a misguided attempt that failed to weigh the high cost to the consumers, many low-income, who would have footed the bill.”
