Yoder to Welcome U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao to Third District of Kansas

Overland Park, KS – Representative Kevin Yoder (R-KS) will welcome U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao to Overland Park on Monday, October 15 for a bus tour and transportation roundtable discussion with the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce and community leaders. This event is invite-only. Rep. Yoder issued the following statement:

“Secretary Chao has done so much to improve our transportation and infrastructure in this country. I’m excited to take her around the Third District of Kansas and show her some of the critical infrastructure needs in our community. I know our local leaders have a lot to discuss and will look forward to hearing her unique perspective. I look forward to welcoming Secretary Chao to Kansas.”

Secretary Chao biography:

Secretary Elaine Chao is the 18th U.S. Secretary of Transportation. Previously, she served as U.S. Secretary of Labor, the first Asian American woman in American history to be appointed to the President's cabinet.

Secretary Chao has a distinguished career in the public, private and non-profit sectors, including extensive experience in transportation.  She began her executive career in public service working on transportation and trade issues at the White House. She has served as Deputy Maritime Administrator; Chairman of the Federal Maritime Commission; and, Deputy Secretary of the U. S. Department of Transportation.  In addition, she has served as President and CEO of United Way of America, and Director of the Peace Corps. 

Secretary Chao has devoted most of her professional life to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to build better lives for themselves and their families.
